Enquire about music therapy

What is music therapy?

Music therapy uses musical experiences within a therapeutic relationship to work towards individual goals. At Bloom & Sound, Flora begins with your strengths, interests and support needs, then adapts the sessions around you.

You do not need musical training. The focus is on how music can support your participation and everyday life.

Communication

Explore verbal and non-verbal expression, shared attention and choice-making.

Connection

Create opportunities for turn-taking, interaction and participation.

Emotional expression

Make space to express feelings and explore ways to engage with music.

Individual goals

Work towards appropriate movement, attention or participation goals based on assessment.

Who are sessions for?

Flora works with children, teenagers, adults and older adults. This includes people with developmental or disability support needs, neurodevelopmental conditions, neurological conditions, dementia or mental health needs.

Suitability and goals are discussed individually. Where appropriate, Flora can work with families, carers and other professionals involved in your support.

What happens when you begin?

Read our guide to your first music therapy sessions for practical questions to ask before you book.

Getting to know you

New clients usually begin with an assessment period across the first three sessions. Musical interaction and observation help Flora understand your preferences, strengths and support needs.

A plan you can understand

An initial assessment report brings together observations, proposed therapy goals and recommendations. Fees for assessment, reports and any additional work are discussed before proceeding.

Sessions that develop with you

Ongoing sessions remain flexible while working towards agreed goals. They may include singing, playing instruments, improvisation, songwriting, listening, movement or music technology. Progress is reviewed in relation to your goals.

Flora is fluent in English and Cantonese. Share your preferred language and any communication needs when you enquire, so you can discuss goals and practical arrangements comfortably.

Questions before you start

How is this different from piano lessons?

Piano lessons develop musical skills. Music therapy uses music to work towards therapeutic goals. Flora can help you explore which approach fits your priorities.

Can I enquire for a family member or someone I support?

Yes. Parents, carers, support coordinators and other professionals are welcome to make an initial enquiry. Share only the details needed to discuss the next step.

Can I use NDIS or aged care funding?

Funding depends on your individual plan, eligibility and current program rules. Speak with Flora and your plan manager, support coordinator or care provider before booking. Self-funded sessions are also available.

Let’s explore what music could mean for you.
